Stretching Your Energy Dollar This Summer

Improving your home’s building envelope is the best way to reduce energy use and help your home stay cool. Use caulk or foam to seal any cracks or openings that let outside air enter the home.

Check weather stripping around exterior doors and on doors that lead to a garage.

Close drapes or blinds during the day to keep heat producing sunlight out.

Change or clean your air conditioner’s filter once a month. Dirty filters reduce efficiency by reducing airflow.

Summer Safety

Storms can cause electrical hazards and power outages. It’s a good idea to keep our emergency numbers on hand and know what to do after the storm winds blow. You can reach us 24 hours-a-day at (765) 482-2390 or (800) 897-7362.

If you see a downed power line, stay far away from it and call Boone REMC. Warn others to stay clear of the wires. Always assume that all downed power lines are energized.

Water and electricity is an extremely dangerous combination. Keep electronics like radios away from pools and hot tubs. Always look for overhead power lines when cleaning pools, sailing or fishing.

Never install pools underneath or near power lines.

Trees can beautify your landscape and provide shade for your home. Unfortunately, trees planted near power lines can also cause problems with your electric service and create dangerous conditions for others.

Trees growing close to power lines are the primary cause of service interruptions and flickering lights.
