The Boone REMC Operation Round Up Board gave a record amount of funding this year. A total of $76,813.08 was granted to the community during this year. This brings the total amount granted to $768,533.61 since its inception in 2006.
The Caring Center will get an additional food source this coming summer. The Operation Round Up board granted the organization funds to construct a new greenhouse at the Lebanon Church of Christ location. A total of $2,550 was granted.
“The greenhouse will enable the Boone County Community Gardens system to start vegetable and herb seedlings for all three of the community gardens, subsequently providing food to local pantries and feeding programs,” Theresa Hanners said. “This will also extend the growing season by several months.”
The next grant application submission deadline for Operation Round Up will be due on Friday, Feb. 5 at noon. Applications and guidelines can be found at www.bremc.com.
